If you’re like me, you probably haven’t even started shopping for those people on your gift list. If you’re also like me, you might actually take pride in finding cool and thoughtful gifts for friends and loved ones. So here are a few places that have some really fun, cool, unique, original, and fresh products that would make great presents:
#5 - AC Gears - Originally they just sold cool headphones and the like, now they also sell fun robotic gizmo’s from Japan (i assume). i like to think of it as a little bit of Harajuku Schoolgirl shopping district in NYC.
#4 - MoMa Store - sure this isn’t so original, but i bet you didn’t know that in addition to some great replicas or memorabilia from the museum they also have some genuinely awesomely designed timepieces and jewelry. in fact, one of my favorite watches is from the MoMa Store.
#3 - Flight 001 - hip, well designed travel accessories… everything from toiletry bags to cool luggage tags. sounds a little dorky but i bet when you travel a lot you start realizing how cool it would be to actually have useful good looking travel things because my HS gym duffel isn’t looking so hot anymore.
#2 - Muji - the japanese organization/homeware/clothing retailer (think container store + uniqlo) finally opened a store in NYC’s SoHo, and damn do i love those japanese… they’re so efficient with their designs. They have a lot of really cool desk organization items as well fun kitchen accessories. personally, i actually like their clothing.
#1 - Nau - my favorite store, though i’ve never ever step foot in one (that’ll change come January) - luckily their online store is pretty damn slick. Nau is eco-conscious adventure clothing with good design and a nice urban style. The prices aren’t half bad either.
#5 - Because come backs are soooo hot right now (hey if Jay-Z can do it…. so can c-low).
#4 - Writers are on strike and it’s my big opportunity to make it in showbiz… consider this my portfolio!!! Err i mean, i wouldn’t cross a picket line (…. call me?).
#3 - Because you gotta blog if you’re an account/brand planner - i need somewhere to vent all the pent up snarkiness thanks in part to my even more snarky creative director suppressing my wits.
#2 - Because if i quit again and then come back again it makes for an even more dramatic comeback (hey if jay-z can do it, so can c-low, except next time my blogging name will be “c-high” - ok maybe i should rethink that…whatever)
#1 - because your MOM said so!!!! OOOOHHHHHHHH! High FIVE anyone?!?!
one of my good friends/coworkers will be leaving for korea for 3 months, having not been home in 4 years… so we had to send him off with a bang (and a reason to come back and not stay in korea). thus, it meant hardcore karaoke… this is how the night broke out with top performances (pictures to come asap):
5. “i believe i can fly”, r kelly - ummm, hands down best vocal performance of the night (and in english!)
4. “back in the ussr”, the beatles - reason #2 why you karaoke-ing with coworkers will change your perspective on things
3. “take on me”, aha - yeah, those are the words and if your creative director can hit those notes you best wonder what’s going on there.
2. “faith”, george michael - is it funny that i ranked my self #2. easy song to sing vocally, even easier song to perform = lots of pictures with me doing the shoulder dance biting my lower lip.
1. “believe”, cher - when sung by a 40 year old man who gives you shit all day, it’s important you get a video of it. i can now sign every email to him like this: “do you believe in life after love?”
nothing like a brutally honest and funny ecard to send to a buddy/exgirlfriend/boss/mom/brother…
while some ecards have been around for a while (having caught them on joshspear.com and notcot.org a few months back) they keep pumping out some hilarious one’s… and i was reminded of it when my friend, Mrs. E. Malone-Quinn (HAHAHAHAHA… I kid i kid…), sent me one the other day. it looked like this:
Sometimes i wonder if i come across weird viral advertising things because i, well, work in advertising. but i’ve recently been enjoying Jack Links Beef Jerky ads which are only available online.
nothing beats those awesome japanese tv shows where they do ridiculous stunts (see ninja competition)… but this one just made me crack up the whole time…. i wanna play!
i had been resigned to the fact that i was not going to get apple’s iPhone… because i really had no use for it, i mean really, why would i need such a thing?
then i saw their new ads (premiered last night)… and then i realized that i want the iPhone so damn bad!
my favorite ad of the series is the “how to…” one, in which the narrator shows how easy it is to use the iPhone… though the “never been an ipod” one is also clever… come to think of it so is the third one “calamari”.
check em out, certainly worth it. though you and i may not own one on June 29th when they come out, it’s amazing to see the merging of so many different media’s and technolog
